Frequently asked questions: Good
questions.
Everything people ask before joining #TeamCJM. Can't find yours? Ask it in your application.
Getting started
How is an online coach different from an in-person coach?
An in-person coach is usually paid for the hour they spend with you in the gym. An online coach works around the clock: your training, your nutrition, your check-ins and a direct line through our app whenever you need it.
The goal is the same, getting you to yours, but the support doesn't stop when you leave the gym.
Can I choose which coach I work with?
Yes. On your consultation call we'll talk through your goals and recommend the coach best suited to them, but the final say is yours.
How much does coaching cost?
Coaching with Josh McHale is £220 per month. Coaching with Josh Harrison is £180 + VAT per month.
Will you put me straight into a cut or a bulk?
That depends on your goals and the time we have to get there, so it's decided with you once you've signed up, not guessed beforehand.
Your programme
What does my programme include?
Access to the Coach J McHale app, where you'll find your training programme and either a meal plan or macros (depending on your experience and how much flexibility you want), plus messaging support. Fire any question at us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
How is my programme delivered?
Everything is uploaded to the Coach J McHale app, so you can reach it from your phone or your desktop.
How long is each training session?
We usually programme sessions to last 45 to 60 minutes. If that doesn't fit your life, tell us and we'll adjust it.
Do you provide meal plans or just macros?
Both. For newer clients we usually recommend a meal plan, so you get to know the nutritional values of the foods you eat most. More experienced clients often prefer macros for the flexibility.
Will you check my exercise form?
Yes. Send us videos of your lifts regularly and we'll give you feedback, both for your safety and so you get the most out of every exercise.
Check-ins
What is a check-in?
Once a week you'll send front, side and back photos, measurements (for example biceps, waist, hips and glutes) and notes on your sleep, food, water intake, stress and, for women, your menstrual cycle.
Competitors close to a show check in more often during the week, as agreed with their coach.
What do you do with my check-in?
We talk through your week, including any lifestyle changes, and adjust your programme so you reach your goal on schedule.
Free bikini plan
How many times a week will I train?
It's a 7-day split with 3 lower-body days and 2 upper-body days, so you'll train five times a week.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The plan is free. Just enter your email address to download it.
What if my gym doesn't have the equipment?
Swap the movement for one that trains the same muscle. For example, swap a hack squat for a barbell squat.
Who is this plan for?
It's a sample of the plan we might give a competitor who wants to improve their whole physique with extra focus on glutes and hamstrings, or anyone who simply wants to look better in a bikini.
You'll get the most out of it with a bit of training experience behind you.
Is there a meal plan included?
No. This is a training programme only. If you want your nutrition built around you as well, that's what coaching is for.
No questions match that. Try another word, or ask us in your application.
